Why am I fundraising?

I'm raising money for this particular cause because both of my children were born premature, and sent to the NICU for assistance to thrive. In particular, my second child, Natalie, was a graduate of UMASS Worcester NICU facility.
It was a scary time for everyone. I spent a lot of my time at the Maternal Fetal Medicine unit at UMASS WORCESTER, and was told early on that my baby had a struggle to grow in the womb which led to emergency visits, overnight stays in the hospital, and finally the doctor saying that if Natalie didn't come out soon, she would be stillborn. They said I was not going home that day.
They did a c-section the next day, and she was born at 4lbs at 34 weeks. Natalie was sent straight up to the NICU.
While we were there, the nurses, doctors, and child life specialists were amazing. The support and care that not only Natalie received, but my entire family, was something that I will never forget.
Meeting other families in the NICU is an experience that stays with a person. I met parents who had a set of twins, lost one and was waiting for their other baby to pull through. I couldn't imagine...
Just seeing my baby in an incubator with a breathing machine hit pretty hard. When I was with her on my own, I never felt alone. The staff and families were always making sure Natalie and I were taken care of. This hospital went above and beyond to make sure you felt safe, comfortable, and gave hope to the patients and their families. I am forever grateful to them.
